Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Earns a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by dark humor, this show's earnestness struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who found the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about following this endearing family go about their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially help usher in that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to bask in the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
