Both Deceased Students Named in the Ivy League School Attack as Authorities Persist in Search for Perpetrator.

Both young individuals who lost their lives in Saturday’s mass shooting in Providence were honored at the start of the week – while an intensive search for their shooter persisted following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the sole person detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was called “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a gathering on Sunday.

Her role included vice-president of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. The White House press secretary also expressed sympathies publicly, saying in part: “There are no words. Thinking of her family and friends, particularly her mother and father.”

The Second Victim

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, from Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the Ivy League university, family members said.

His name was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and assisting patients,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.

What Happened

Nine more persons were injured in the violent event in the school of engineering of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Authorities said by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-man taken into custody in a search at a hotel about approximately 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was being released.

“A perpetrator remains free,” said the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you must reassess and head another way, and that is the current situation over the last approximately one day.”

Public Fear

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “This will probably generate renewed concern for our community”.

The shooter opened fire inside a room in the building on Saturday, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm handgun, a law enforcement official told the news agency.

Law enforcement that raided the inn found a pair of pistols and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was detained, the news agency reported.

Those Hurt

Among those wounded, one student was discharged from care, mentioned Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in grave but unchanging health, and one was in critical condition, police said on Sunday.

An educational institution, a private academy in the city of Durham, said Kendall Turner, Kendall Turner, was in the group of seriously hurt victims.

Cook was remembered at a memorial in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only during her upbringing... but at the university she was an incredible light in that specific location as well.”
