Brian Eno Urges Backing to Get Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The campaign aims to send support to people in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Chance for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I won't be completely let down if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“The song holds a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “The essence is that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Featured Artists
The track was produced after a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the piece was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.
The diverse array of performers featured on Lullaby features a range of prominent voices from the industry. All took part in the earlier concert, which successfully generated a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Production and Release
Lullaby was brought to life by a group of talented individuals. The song blends a combination of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The group managing the initiative have stated that their objective is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These proceeds will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“There is no a specific target,” a representative explained. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Naturally, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”
The situation in the region was characterized as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of buildings described as levelled or seriously harmed.
“Given that reality, a few million doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The track is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
