In the wake of torrential rains that resulted in floodwaters across areas in the city, LA is now confronting abnormally warm weather for this time of year.
Record-Shattering Readings
On Friday midday, the mercury soared to 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in downtown Los Angeles, according to the National Weather Service. This breaks the previous daily record for this date, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was set just last year.
"Exceptionally warm weather" were labeled on forecast graphics for the region.
Public Health Warnings
Forecasters cautioned that Friday's conditions posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their recommendations suggested:
- Keeping well-hydrated.
- Limiting outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
- Ensuring you do not leave kids or animals unattended in a car.
A Sharp Reversal
This sudden spike in heat arrives just after a massive winter storm that pummeled the area last week. That event brought thunderstorms, high winds, and heavy snow to mountainous regions, causing mudslide risks for many residents.

Other locales that reached the 90-degree mark included Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Additionally, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were expected to reach the high eighties.
For the weekend, central LA can anticipate temperatures in the 80s, with a further cooldown expected for the week ahead.
