Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades After Leading Abusive Songs Targeting Manager Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of Sheffield United only seven months after leading disrespectful songs targeting the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has agreed to a contract joining the Championship club in difficulty until January. Bamford's seven-year time at Elland Road was ended through agreement in August.
One of Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading offensive songs regarding Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Now, the one-cap England international is set to play under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to lift the team he loves out of the drop zone.
Previous Conflict Between Bamford & Wilder
Both men had a past before Leeds moved up back to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured direct promotion while Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
Everything appears to have been put behind them with United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement up front and Bamford looking to rejuvenate his playing days.
The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder stated back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I have no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow pro! However I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We had a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel as well and had a longer discussion with him and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and take it and that is an integral part of football at every level, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”
Latest Playing Challenges
The forward featured in 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea & Boro striker has struggled with injury in recent years.
