The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Survival Horror and Among Us Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled a number of fascinating upcoming titles, but one in particular has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a young woman containing several personalities within her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Within her exist four distinct personas, all possessing unique fears and motivations. These entities can seize control at will, releasing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy hospital, though other scenes depict the main character exploring a desolate church.

An Environment of Individual Horror

"What are you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to others can activate something primal within us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The central mechanic involves controlling the persona that emerges at any given time. However, these identities will change against your will during gameplay. While exploring, each soul's anxieties become exaggerated and attack the protagonist one after another. When the soul shifts, so does the particular terror the player encounters.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Choice

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the waiting room have enormous flowers growing from their necks are. Flowers are an ever-present theme, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "All four personas claims that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."

After a player have deduced a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. However, since each soul can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is very easy to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The final entity remaining might be a fraud. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
