The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features a few notable changes:

  • Each team includes just eight human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Community Responses: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to remove XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
